Research Day in the library. Groups researching Pentacostal faith should provide an overview here. At the end of the hour, make sure to post summarized information about what you found, and include links in case your classmates would like more information. Don't forget to cite your sources -- MLA format!

Pentecostalism is a branch of Christianity that emphasizes personal experience with God, including speaking in tongues. Herald Loomis speaks in tongues at the end of Act 1. 25% of the world's Christians are Pentecostals or charismatics. They emphasize the importance of faith in Jesus to transform one's life. They believe that it is most important to experience faith through experience, not just through ritual. This is shown in Joe Turner's Come and Gone through the characters Bertha and Herald. In the Juba dance they do, Pentacostalism plays a part when they are chanting about the Holy Ghost. Also, women and men are both important in this religion, so it was popular for blacks at the time. Blacks and whites would congregate together, and it helped early movements.
